Description

What is a Stock Subscription?

Stock Subscription is also known as ownership in a community investment program, where residential investors pay a recurring investment—weekly, monthly, or annually—to access a program and project dividends. It focuses on ongoing value and loyalty in community investing and shifting from one-time investment to consistent increase in revenue. This means that the Treasury Bank provides residential investors the opportunity, to invest residually and over a period of time within community development program and project. This structure guarantees that the residential investor will gain ownership of the stock, and once community programs generate a profit, all residental investors will recieve an agreed-upon profit.

These are actual shares given to district members as investors. Investors receive a real return on investment (ROI), which may be subject to a vesting period and taxation. Once the shares are vested—meaning they have been earned or fully acquired—the investor owns them outright and can either sell them or hold them as part of their investment portfolio.

How Does it Work?

Community residents will elect in Treasury Bank as their community investment authority purchase a stock subscription and becoming a Treasury Bank members and investors; and receive actual shares of stock, which may be subject to a vesting period. When the programs generate a profit, shareholders are paid dividends as part of their vested or invested compensation package.

Return On Investment

Return on Investment (ROI) funds will be provided only to low- to moderate-income accountholders, up to 40%. The program receives 60% of community development grant funds; however, 100% is reinvested into low-income communities as a reserve allocation.

Tax Implications?

A Stock Subscription is taxed as ordinary income when they vest, based on the fair market value of the shares at that time.

What is the risk and reward?

Stock Investors face risk, as they must invest capital to exercise stock and the potential for profit is tied to the program’s income performance.
